Glossary of terms

Analogue: The current delivery system for radio services using one frequency for each station

Bits: Also called Binary Digits. A computer code consisting of ones and zeros into which source material is transformed using digital compression techniques before it is stored or transmitted.

DAB: Digital Audio Broadcasting. A system of transmitting digital radio

DLS: Dynamic Label Segment. Programme supporting data broadcast as scrolling text via a screen on a DAB digital radio receiver

DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting. Based on DAB and used to broadcast audio, television and video to mobile handsets.

DRM: Digital Radio Mondiale - A non-proprietary digital AM system for radio

DSR: Digital Satellite Radio

EPG: Electronic Programme Guide

Eureka 147: The accepted standard for DAB digital radio transmission in much of the world

Multiplex: A collection of audio and data services "bundled" into a single frequency
